![]() Cryptomator is for encrypting files/folders for upload to cloud provides (e.g. Operations like that should be pretty rare though and I’m willing to live with the performance hit. VeraCrypt is for encrypting local volumes/disks. I noticed that deleting the nodejs package directory, “node_modules” took a REALLY long time from a cryptomator vault, but was relatively fast when using veracrypt, though this makes sense since every little file is encrypted separately. I’d like to use it for encrypting various activities, including CAD design and web development. Negative comment 4 Gu Guest Doesnt provide the same functionality i.e. I came across this post, though, which says it’s not meant for anything but encrypted cloud sync. VeraCrypt is for encrypting local volumes/disks. I’ve read and understood the security differences, and the ability to encrypt each file separate is what I’m going for: to keep files encrypted at-rest and to sync them between two machines using SyncThing (although a backup to the cloud can also be done). Veracrypt containers also usually have a fixed rather than a dynamic size. This can also be a disadvantage when you want to sync those files because with Veracrypt you then have to resync the entire container with every change. VeraCrypt is a free, open-source encryption application built by a team of two people: Mounir Idrassi, the main developer, and a volunteer developer. ![]() Hi, I’d like to know if Cryptomator is a safe replacement for veracrypt for non-document usages. Veracrypt btw has the advantage over Cryptomator that it hides file layout and size.
